Chemical exfoliants help prevent breakouts by improving the way dead skin cells are shed from the surface and within the hair follicle, where acne begins. Under normal conditions, skin cells are continuously renewed and released in a controlled process. In acne-prone skin, however, this process can become disrupted, leading to a buildup of keratinized cells داخل the pore. When these cells mix with sebum, they form a plug that can block the follicle and initiate the formation of comedones such as blackheads and whiteheads. Overuse may lead to irritation, dryness, and disruption of the skin barrier, which can paradoxically worsen acne by increasing sensitivity and triggering excess oil production. For this reason, chemical exfoliants are often introduced gradually and used in combination with hydrating and barrier-supporting ingredients to maintain balance.

Chemical exfoliants are commonly incorporated alongside other acne treatments to address multiple contributing factors. Retinoids may help regulate deeper cell turnover, while benzoyl peroxide can reduce bacterial activity داخل the follicle. Niacinamide may support the skin barrier and help manage oil production. This combination approach reflects the multifactorial nature of acne, where preventing breakouts requires attention to both internal and external processes within the skin.

Consistent use over time is typically needed to see noticeable improvements, as the skin cycle gradually becomes more regulated.
