Collagen plays a central role in how the skin repairs itself after acne inflammation and tissue damage. It is one of the primary structural proteins within the skin and helps maintain firmness, strength, elasticity, and smooth texture. During acne breakouts, especially inflammatory lesions such as papules, pustules, nodules, and cysts, the skin undergoes a healing process that depends heavily on collagen remodeling. The balance between collagen breakdown and collagen production often determines whether the skin heals smoothly or develops lingering texture changes and scars.

Acne begins with clogged pores, excess sebum production, dead skin cell buildup, bacterial activity, and inflammation inside the hair follicles. When inflammation becomes severe, it may damage the follicular wall and surrounding tissue beneath the surface.
