Moisturizers containing barrier-supporting ingredients such as ceramides, glycerin, and hyaluronic acid may help restore hydration and reinforce the skin’s protective lipid structure. When the barrier is healthier, the skin may be less prone to irritation and excessive oil production.
Acne treatments such as topical retinoids, salicylic acid, and benzoyl peroxide are commonly used to manage clogged pores and inflammation, but they may initially cause dryness or irritation in some individuals. For this reason, dermatology professionals often recommend introducing these ingredients gradually and pairing them with supportive moisturizers to maintain barrier stability. This balanced approach may help control acne while minimizing irritation that could otherwise worsen breakouts.
