Creating an Effective Research Approach for Your Thesis

If you mean dark marks left after acne, these are often post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) rather than true scars. They usually fade, but it can take several months.

What helps most

Morning

  1. Gentle cleanser.
  2. Vitamin C or niacinamide to help brighten uneven pigmentation.
  3. Moisturizer.
  4. Broad-spectrum SPF 30–50 every day. This is especially important because UV exposure can make dark marks darker and prolong them.

Night

  1. Gentle cleanser.
  2. Adapalene 0.1% or another retinoid can gradually improve acne and pigmentation. Start 2–3 nights/week and increase as tolerated.
  3. Moisturizer.

If you want an additional pigment-targeting ingredient, azelaic acid (10–20%) is a good option and can help both acne and dark marks.

Avoid

  • Picking or squeezing pimples.
  • Harsh scrubs and frequent exfoliation.
  • Using several strong actives at once—irritation can actually worsen pigmentation.
  • DIY lemon juice or bleaching remedies.

How long? You may notice improvement in 6–12 weeks, but deeper/darker marks can take several months to fade.

If the spots are indented or raised rather than flat and brown/gray, they’re more likely acne scars, which generally need different treatment.

If you tell me your skin type (oily/dry/sensitive), skin tone, and what products you’re currently using, I can suggest a simple routine for your specific situation.
